UNA-DR closes DEUROMUN 2013 at UNESCO’s Headquarters

The Dominican Association of the United Nations (UNA-DR), with support from Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) and its sister organization in the United States, the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), formally closed the Third Edition of the Dominican-European Model United Nations Conference, DEUROMUN 2013, on Friday, July 19.

The event was held in Room IX, at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization (UNESCO) headquarters. Among the attendees were students of intermediate and higher education from the Dominican Republic and other countries who, for three days, discussed the subject "Education about climate change for sustainable development" and offered their proposals for finding solutions to the issue.

During the closing ceremony the leaders of the different commissions presented the reports and resolutions resulting from the meetings.
Furthermore, the attendees enjoyed the video summary where they could see themselves during the working sessions and discussions that took place inside and outside of the commissions, as well as the most anticipated activity, the award presented to the most distinguished delegations at DEUROMUN 2013.

Mr. Emil Chireno, Executive Director of ANU-RD, presented a special recognition to Ambassador Laura Faxas, Permanent Representative of the Dominican Republic to UNESCO for
her collaboration in the organization and development of DEUROMUN 2013; to Ms. Pilar Sandoval, Co-founder of the ANU-RD and Deputy Director of Welfare and Youth Services at the Mexican Youth Institute (IMJUVE – Instituto Mexicano de la Juventud), and to Mrs. Moufida Goucha, Head of UNESCO’s Social and Human Sciences Sector Team.

The following special guests also honored with their presence the head table: Mrs. Acsamary Guzman, Minister Counsellor at the Embassy
of the Dominican Republic in France, and Mr. Mustafa Abu-Naba””a, FUNGLODE’s Director of Programs with the Middle East.

Ms. Gina Rosario, Secretary General of DEUROMUN 2013, brought down her gavel to officially close the event, and Mr. Manuel Amezquita, who served as Master of Ceremonies, offered the closing remarks.
