GFDD, FUNGLODE, SEE, and Microsoft Initiate Second Regional Training of Partners in Learning

April 3, 2006

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), its sister organization in Dominican Republic, Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (SEE for its Spanish initials) and Microsoft Corporation, initiated the second regional training for teachers, part of the "Partners in Learning" (PIL) program.

Through the "Partners in Learning" program more than 1,000 Dominican teachers have received training on the use of technology in
education and other key tools to improve education in classrooms.

In this occasion, Matt Huston and Shelee King George, from the United States, are leading the trainings to teachers not only from Dominican Republic, but also fro Panama, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and El Salvador. Trainings are being held at FUNGLODE’s classrooms in Santo Domingo.

Under the program "Partners in Learning", Microsoft partners with Government, Ministries of Education, and other key stakeholders to offer a spectrum of education resources-tools, programs, and practices-to empower students and teachers to realize their full potential. The fundamental premise of this vision is that technology in education can be a powerful catalyst to promote learning and that education changes lives,
families, communities, and ultimately nations.

In the Dominican Republic, the "Partners in Learning" program is being implemented through FUNGLODE and the Secretary of Education. GFDD serves as a coordinating and supervising body, in close collaboration with Microsoft.
