President Fernandez Visits with Head of CLAS at Georgetown University

During his visit to Washington DC, the former President of DR, Leonel Fernandez visited Georgetown University to meet with the Director of the Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS), Mark Chernick, to continue to fortify ties between their respective institutions and the Dominican Republic.

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo, non-profit Foundations over which Fernandez presides enjoys an established
partnership with CLACS, one of the Georgetown University’s most prominent departments and the relationship has continued to develop and flourish. “This is very helpful for the Dominican Republic in terms of having a modern outlook in different areas of importance to the DR and having a collaborative partnership with Georgetown,” said President Fernandez
Georgetown University has traditionally enjoyed long-standing links with Latin America,
welcoming students from throughout the Americas since its inception over 200 years ago. Through its interdisciplinary teaching, research, and outreach activities CLAS has focused on democratic consolidation and governance, economic development and trade, poverty and inequality, indigenous peoples, culture and society, inter-American affairs and other subjects.
Today CLAS is one of the leading centers for the study of the Western Hemisphere in
the world and the Foundations looks forward to continuing a fruitful collaboration with the Georgetown University, both in the US and the DR.
