GFDD/Funglode Joins ASOVEUSA for its Annual Gala Dinner in the Big Apple

The Asociación de Veganos en los Estados Unidos (ASOVEUSA – Association of La Vega Residents in the US) celebrated its 6th anniversary with a gala dinner, last Saturday, in which they recognized various Dominican individuals and institutions that stand out for their support of citizens of La Vega who live abroad.

The event was held on November 6th at the Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center in New York, and Germán Batista was
master of ceremony. Batista thanked the sustained support of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode) to ASOVEUSA, and highlighted the affection and commitment that the president of the association, Juan Pineda, and José Ramón Burgos, treasurer have towards the foundations.
During the activity, in which Kenia Hernández was present in representation of GFDD / Funglode, a special recognition was granted to
the general of the Dominican Air Force Osvaldo Cepeda y Cepeda, native of La Vega, announcer, educator, poet and military official. After receiving "El Gran Olímpico", the general made a detailed account of the history of La Vega province since its foundation, accompanied by captivating photographic images.

Also recognized were: the entrepreneur Antonio M. Rosario, president of West Side Wood Refinishing Corp .; Alberto de la Cruz, president of the Catey
Folk Group; Lincoln de Leon, president of the Vegan Heart Foundation; César Abreu Maracallo, propeller of vegan sport in the United States, and Flavio Holguín, representing the station Radio Real.

The president of the association, Juan Pineda, addressing the over a hundred prominent figures present, called on his fellow citizens to feel identified with the cause of the organization and to join to keep it as a service institution.

Pineda added that this
year ASOVEUSA is celebrating its sixth anniversary with a large team of La Vega citizens that have been integrated to the team to make the organization stronger and to continue with its objective: "to organize our community abroad, to assist and help the most disadvantaged members, and at the same time contribute to the protection of the environment of our province."
