GFDD and the UNA-DR at the UN Annual DPI/NGO Conference in New York City

September 7, 2005

Under the title of "Our Challenge: Voices for Peace, Partnerships and Renewal", the United Nations held its 58 th Annual DPI/NGO Conference on September 7-9 at UN headquarters in New York City . Natasha Despotovic, Executive Director of GFDD, and Pilar Sandoval , Executive Director of the UNA-DR, participated in the meetings.

For three days representatives of the civil society from all over the world gathered at the UN headquarters to
discuss the Future of the United Nations, Collective Security, and the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals. The Conference also included break-out sessions and roundtables to discuss some of the issues at a smaller scale.

This Conference represented an excellent opportunity for NGOs and civil society to meet, discuss, propose and adopt recommendations in an effort to influence and act as a sounding board to the international negotiations of
world issues under the UN mandate.

GFDD and FUNGLODE have been affiliated with the Department of Public Information (DPI) of the United Nations since the year 2003 and from that time have closely followed its work and participated in its activities.
