Celebrate International Recycling Day at Expo ReCrearte!

April 26, 2017

Want to see how waste can be converted into art and objects for daily use? Visit Expo ReCrearte, a showcase that displays recycling projects and art works created by students from numerous schools throughout the Dominican Republic. Expo ReCrearte, an event held in celebration of International Recycling Day on May 17, is organized by the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) ReCrearte program, and done in collaboration with the ECOESCUELA project of the
Dominican Republic Institute for Environmental Law (IDARD, for its acronym in Spanish).

When asked about Expo ReCrearte, Interim Co-Executive Director of GFDD Yamile Eusebio stressed the importance of the event and ReCrearte’s work with young students throughout the
country. “Expo ReCrearte brings together the works of many talented students in our country and showcases one of several efforts by GFDD and ReCrearte to promote recycling efforts and sustainability in the Dominican Republic and worldwide,” Eusebio mentioned.

The Expo ReCrearte will be held Wednesday, May 17, from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm in the Galería de Arte Funglode, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

About ReCrearte

The ReCrearte program works with the most disadvantaged communities, who receive training in the art of recycling and creating new objects from waste and simultaneously learn to develop an alternative source of income. The program revolves around the “three golden rules” (or 3Rs) for the proper management of solid waste: reduce, reuse, and recycle. The workshops demonstrate and emphasize the idea that recycling waste and transforming it into art
and objects for daily use strengthen individuals and communities alike.
