Dominican Law Students Can Now Apply to the Prestigious University of Washington’s Transnational Law Program!

The Global Dominican Academic Exchange (GDAE) program and the University of Washington (UW) School of Law have opened the application period for the Summer Institute in Transnational Law and Practice that
will take place from September 1 to 15, 2017 in Seattle, Washington, United States.  Applications will be received until June 30, 2017 and participants will receive a discount of 50 percent for the registration cost of the program.

The program, promoted by GDAE, is a collaboration between InteRDom, an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode), and the University of
Washington School of Law.

The
program allows Dominican students of law, recent graduates and young professionals working in the legal field to participate in a rigorous agenda that introduces participants to the American and international education system and legal systems, through a variety of courses delivered by law professors, professionals and reference librarians during two weeks. The
program’s main topics are: introduction to the American legal system and practice in a comparative setting, legal skills and methodology, and legal English. Other examples of topics include: introduction to constitutional law and branches of government, and criminal and civil court systems, among others.

The program is a unique opportunity for academic and cultural exchange, and for growth among Dominican participants, students and professors at one of the best
research universities in the United States. Furthermore, participants will be able to visit state and federal courts and agencies, and one of Seattle’s largest law firms as well as enjoy social events around the beautiful UW campus and the city of Seattle.

All
Dominican students interested in participating must sign up using the application form prior to June 30, 2017. The requisites to apply are:

  • Student/recent graduate/young professional in law
  • Advanced level of English
  • Passport and valid B1/B2 visa
  • Minimum grade point average:
    3.0
  • Include: online application form, unofficial transcript, CV, a one-page essay in English describing why participating in this program will contribute to your academic and or professional goals.

UW’s Summer Institute in Transnational Law and Practice was developed by law faculty from the University of Washington School of Law, one of the world’s leading centers for innovative teaching and research on international, comparative and US law.

The Global Dominican Academic Exchange (GDAE) is an initiative
of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister organization in the Dominican Republic, Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode).
