DPI/ NGO Briefing

April 27, 2007

GFDD/FUNGLODE attended the United Nations’ briefing: “Encouraging Creativity.” The briefing was held April 26, 2007, at the Dag Hammarskjold Library Auditorium, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.

The briefing centered on issues concerning international property laws and written expression.

Mr. Orobola Fasehun, Director of the World Intellectual Property Organization Coordination Office in
New York, discussed the work being carried out by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in association with various organizations around the world, to help protect authors.

Following Mr. Fasehun’s presentation, Mr. Alan Behr, Copyright Attorney for Alston & Bird, LLP, emphasized the importance of protecting written expression via copy rights.

Matters concerning copyrights are complex, given the fact that each
country has its own laws, and no global agreements exist.

The participation of GFDD/FUNGLODE in these briefings is part of its overall commitment to promote UN activities and programs. GFDD/FUNGLODE is a member of several agencies within the United Nations with Consultative Status, including the DPI/NGO.
