DREFF Celebrates World Environment Day and World Ocean Day with Film Showings at the Cinemateca Dominicana and Local Universities UNIBE and UNAPEC

June 11, 2018

Beginning June 1st, the Dominican Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) celebrated during an entire week two important international days: World Environment Day and World Ocean Day, held annually on June 5th and 8th, respectively.

With the support of local partners, such as the Cinemateca Dominicana, the Ibero-American University (UNIBE) and APEC University (UNAPEC), the DREFF presented a broad program of free
films, for the general public, that highlighted important environmental issues faced by local populations throughout the Dominican Republic and the world.  The films included short documentaries as ¿Basura o Recurso? Experiencia de la República Dominicana (non-official translation: Garbage or Resource? The Experience of the Dominican Republic). Also, the feature films “Racing Extinction”,
“Exuma”, “Sonic Sea”, Todo el tiempo del mundo (non-official translation: All the Time in the World) and La Tragedia Electrónica (non-official translation: The Electronic Tragedy), among others.

Hundreds enjoyed the film presentations and learned about important and current environmental concerns.  Panel discussions were also held after
the showings.

The film showings are part of the DREFF initiative, which throughout the year contributes to the free promotion of sustainable development policies and raises environmental awareness among thousands in the Dominican Republic.
