GFDD and FUNGLODE Attend Webby Connect Conference

GFDD Executive Director and FUNGLODE Vice President, Natasha Despotovic, and GFDD ICT Manager, Semiramis de Miranda, participated in Webby Connect, which took place in Laguna Beach, CA, October 3-5, 2007.

The Webby Connect Conference gathered more than 120 leaders in the area of of internet communication,
marketing and creativity in order to discuss current trends in interactive media, advertising and entertainment.

The 2007 Conference featured presentations by industry professionals such as: Political Columnists, Arianna Huffington; Webby Award Executive Director, David Michael Davies; Institute of the Future Research Director, David Pescovitz; Twitter Co-Founder, Biz Stone; Flickr Co-Founder, Caterine Fake; Myspace.com Head of
Marketing and Content Development, Shawn Gold; YouTube Head of News and Politics, Steve Grove; Time Magazine National Correspondent, Karen Tumulty; President of the news source The Onion, Sean Mills; Senior Vice President of Comedy Central, Lou Wallach, and Internet Co-Inventor, Vinton Cerf.

Webby Connect was organized by the Webby Awards. Recognized as the “Oscars of the Internet” by the New York Times, the
international awards acknowledge excellence in interactive media projects in the areas of Website, Interactive Advertising, Online Film & Video and Mobile Websites.

The Awards were established in 1996 by the Academy of Digital Arts and Science, a 550 member body comprised of experts from diverse fields. Academy members include: musician, David Bowie; “Simpsons” creator, Matt Groening, and Real Networks CEO,
Rob Glaser. The Webby Awards are awarded by the Academy of Digital Arts and Science. Previous award winners include: The New York Times, BBC News, CNN, ESPN, eBay, Google, Flickr and YouTube.

GFDD and FUNGLODE’s Dominican Republic Global Film Festival Website was one of the 2007 Webby Award finalists in the category of Events and Live Broadcast. DRGFF was one of five finalists nominated in the category.
