GFDD and FUNGLODE Organize Meeting to Discuss CAFTA

The meeting, held at FUNGLODE’s headquarters in Santo Domingo on March 31st, 2005 included President Fernandez as well as other high level government representatives, legislators, U.S. embassy officials and other key individuals representing different industrial sectors of the Dominican Republic . The meeting was coordinated in collaboration of the U.S. embassy in the DR.

During this presentation, Mr. Rosales outlined the positive impacts and advantages
drawn by Chile from different free trade agreements signed with the U.S. and other countries. He mentioned that the trade agreement with the U.S. posed a series of challenges. However, Chile achieved a balance in its policies and obtained an increase in the productivity of various sectors in the country.

Mr. Hans Hertell, the U.S. ambassador in the Dominican Republic , also participated in the event and closed the meetings with welcoming
remarks and positive wishes for the next trade negotiations between the DR and the U.S.
