GFDD and FUNGLODE Participate in Virtual Educa 2007

GFDD and FUNGLODE have been actively participating in the VIII Conference of Virtual Educa Brazil, taking place at the Universidade do Vale do Paraíba in São José dos Campos, Brazil. The Conference commenced June 18, and will come to a close June 22, 2007.

 

GFDD and FUNGLODE have set-up a stand in the Exposition Center showcasing some of the
initiatives they are currently realizing. Featured initiatives include: Virtual Educa Caribe, the Portal Dominicanaonline.org, the Global Media Arts Institute (GMAI), and the Dominican Republic Global Film Festival.

 

On June 18, Dr. Leonel Fernández, President of the Dominican Republic, and Honorary President of the GFDD and FUNGLODE visited the stand.

 

On this same
day, GFDD, FUNGLODE, Virtual Educa, and the IberFuturo Foundation organized a welcome luncheon for President Fernándes, local authorities, and high-ranking international representatives, such as Eduardo Cury, Mayor of São José dos Campos; Carlos Alvarez, President of MERCOSUR’s Commission for Permanent Representatives; Jorge Pizarro, President of the Latin American Parliament (PARLATINO); Alfredo Jiménez, Technical Coordinator for
Parlatino and Head of Joint Parlatino – UNESCO Activities; Javier Nadal, Executive Vice President of Fundación Telefónica; Sergio Mindlin, Director and President of Fundación Telefónica Brasi. Secretary General of Virtual Educa, José María Antón, and FUNGLODE Vice President and GFDD Executive Director, Natasha Despotivic, hosted this event.

 

The
IberFuturo Foundation is a new initiative, presided over by President Fernández, that seeks to implement development projects throughout the hemisphere, in direct collaboration with international organisms such as the General Secretariat for Ibero-American Affairs (SEGIB), the Organization of American States (OAS), and agencies affiliated with the European Community.
