GFDD Elected Executive Committee Member of the NGO Committee on Sustainable Development-NY at the United Nations

January 4, 2017

The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), represented by its UN Programs & Outreach Manager, Marc Jourdan, was elected on Tuesday December 20, 2016 as Executive Committee Member of the NGO Committee on Sustainable Development-NY (NGO CSD-NY).

The purpose of the NGO Committee on Sustainable Development-NY is to monitor and influence the implementation of the commitments and agreements adopted by the United Nations that pertain to sustainable
development as defined by the UN Conference on Environment and Development, the Earth Summit, the MDGs, the SDGs, Rio+20 and the Post-2015 Sustainable Development Agenda.

As a nonprofit organization that looks to promote the sustainable development of a climate vulnerable island nation such as the Dominican Republic, GFDD has committed itself to building bridges within the NGO community at the United Nations so that NGOs may have a stronger voice when campaigning for the
transition to a Green Economy. In support of this work GFDD has secured accreditation to various UN programs and agencies including UNEP and the UNFCCC to help give the organization more opportunities to influence policy making on key issues connected to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. As an active contributor to the negotiation and review sessions of this new development agenda, GFDD has helped to organize multi-stakeholder discussions with representatives of these agencies,
but also private sector leaders and Ambassadors to the United Nations. Since becoming a member at large of the NGO Committee on Sustainable Development, GFDD has been particularly inspired to note how closely the objectives of the committee match those of the foundation in looking to monitor and influence the various agreements of the United Nations linked to sustainable development. In light of this, GFDD is looks forward to its continued engagement and collaboration with the NGO Committee
in supporting initiatives that promote sustainable development.

GFDD’s term of appointment as Executive Committee Member of the NGO Committee on Sustainable Development-NY is for 3 years effective December 20, 2016.
