GFDD Executive Director Presents the DR Global Film Festival Portal at Virtual Educa VII Brazil

June 22, 2007
Natasha Despotovic, Executive Director of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) presented the Dominican Republic Global Film Festival Portal at Virtual Educa VII, Brazil.

Despotovic explained that the Dominican Republic Global Film Festival Portal was initially developed to inform people of the film screenings and activities that would take place during the Festival, as well as the film industry professionals that would be in attendance. She posited that,
over time, however, the Portal has transformed into a meeting place for film professionals and aficionados.

It was, and continues to symbolize an opportunity for learning for its creators. It represents a place of reflection in which the Portal’s collaborators can confront the challenges posed by the Portal and improve upon its contents.

Yet all energy invested in the
creation of the Portal was justly rewarded. The Portal was nominated for the Webby Awards (the Oscars of the Internet) in the category of Events and Live Broadcasts. 800 other portals were considered for the nomination.

During her presentation, Natasha Despotovic also discussed how the Portal has become an international point of reference concerning the Dominican Republic’s growing cinematographic industry.
