GFDD/Funglode at Dominican Book Fair in New York with Publications, Presentation of Programs and Conference with Veloz Maggiolo

September 29, 2015

The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister organization in the Dominican Republic, Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode), participated once again in the Dominican Book Fair in New York, now in its ninth year. This year’s Book Fair was held at Gregorio Luperón High School in Manhattan from September 26-28.

In addition to offering GFDD/Funglode publications for sale and exhibitions of their various
programs and initiatives, the foundations organized a lecture given by renowned Dominican writer, archaeologist, and anthropologist, Marcio Veloz Maggiolo: “La Fourcade y su novela sobre Trujillo.”

La Fourcade’s novel, “La fiesta del Rey Acab” (King Ahab’s Feast) was the first to look at the death of Galíndez, and was reissued by Funglode Publishing. Originally published in 1959, two years before the death of the dictator Trujillo, the novel enjoyed wide international distribution.

At the inauguration of the Book Fair on September 25th, Mr.
Veloz Maggiolo received special recognition at the United Palace Theater.

Organized annually by the Dominican Cultural Commission in the United States, the Book Fair has various pavilions devoted to cinema, crafts, historical memory, Dominican identity, and youth expression, among other things.

Each year, GFDD publishes books on topics relevant to the Dominican Republic and the world. Through its publications, GFDD brings new
perspectives and innovative approaches and solutions to pressing issues and challenges facing contemporary society in the Dominican Republic and the Americas, contributing to sustainable, social, democratic, economic, and cultural development.

Books are available on the GFDD website, Amazon.com, and iTunes.
