GFDD Global Roundtables Hosts Ms. Christine Hart, Manager of Policy and Government Affairs at Women Thrive Worldwide for a Discussion on Gender Equality and the Prevention of Sexual Violence against Women

July 11, 2014

For the July edition of its online broadcast program “GFDD Global Roundtables,” Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (the Foundation) has the pleasure to invite Ms. Christine Hart, Manager of Policy and Government Affairs at Women Thrive Worldwide.

Christine’s passion for global women’s issues took root when she first served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the area of girls’ education and
empowerment in rural Burkina Faso. Upon returning from her Peace Corps service, Christine joined the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights. Her experience working with grassroots human rights defenders at the RFK Center drove her to pursue graduate studies in the field of International Human Rights with concentrations in Human Trafficking and Contemporary Slavery and International Human Rights Law. As a graduate student, she served as Associate Director of the
University of Denver’s Human Trafficking Clinic and conducted field research on human trafficking in the Philippines and on issues facing youth in post-conflict northern Uganda.

Christine finally joined Women Thrive Worldwide in December 2012. As Manager of Policy and Government, she provides support across all the organization portfolios, including girls’ education, economic opportunity, food security, foreign assistance reform, and gender-based
violence.

On behalf of GFDD, Executive Director Natasha Despotovic will welcome the honored guest to a discussion on a range of questions about the role of gender equality and the issue of sexual violence against women within the post-2015 development agenda, with a particular focus on the success of its foundation’s advocacy efforts in the Caribbean and the USA in particular.

The session will be structured as an interactive discussion between
Christine Hart and Natasha Despotovic, and will be streamed on the Foundation’s websites.

About the Global Roundtable
In close association with the United Nations, the Permanent Mission of the Dominican Republic to the UN, GFDD organizes regular meetings with UN Ambassadors and other prominent figures in the international community in an effort to spread the news, knowledge and understanding of other countries, global issues and
work of different United Nations bodies to its audience in the Dominican Republic, the US and around the world.

The regular series, GFDD Global Roundtable is also a part of GFDD’s program to support the work of the United Nations and, as a non-governmental institution affiliated to it, contribute to the visibility and understanding of its work.
