Where?

Washington Heights’ United Palace Theater will be the venue for an opening night screening of José María Cabral’s Carpinteros. In
the following days, many more films of varying length will be showcased in six different venues.

The Festival also provides working sessions for both current and aspiring film makers, focusing on issues ranging from the basics of production to distribution and intellectual property protection. Starting in
2011, the Dominican Film Festival in New York (DFFNY) has aimed to promote both new and established Dominican films, as well as the people who create them. Recognizing the vital economic and cultural relationship the Dominican Republic shares with the United States, the festival works to inform audiences about Dominican history, politics, social life, and of course cinematic traditions.

The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) has been a partner
with the Dominican Film Festival since its inception. Through collaboration with its sister institution in the Dominican Republic, the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarollo (Funglode), it created the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) and has been a proud contributor to the Dominican Republic’s cinematographic landscape. Through the partnerships with the Organization of American States, the Art Museum of the Americas, the Dominican Embassy in the
US, GFDD’s Dominican Film Showcase has worked to share and celebrate the stories, characters and history of the Dominican Republic with an international audience.
