Global Leadership Awards Gala

Dr. Leonel Fernández, President of the Dominican Republic and Honorary President of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), will be honored at Counterpart International’s Global Leadership Awards Gala, September 19, 2007 at Gustavino’s in New York City.

The Awards celebrate outstanding individuals from the governmental and private sectors who implement tourism initiatives that positively contribute to sustainable development. President Fernández will be recognized for his work creating employment opportunities for the economically underprivileged.

GFDD and FUNGLODE acknowledge President Fernández for his leadership in developing sustainable
development projects and programs devoted to:

Incorporating Technology in Education
Environmental Preservation
Human Capacity Building
New Industry Development
Promotion of Dominican Culture and Values

Other individuals receiving awards include: David Finn, Founder and Chairman of Ruder Finn;
Michael J. Conway, President and CEO of Air Jamaica; Allen Chastanet, Minister of Tourism and Aviation, St. Lucia; and Paxton Baker, Executive Vice-President and General Manager of BET J and BET Digital Networks and President of BET Event Productions.

GFDD Executive Director and FUNGLODE Vice-President, Natasha Despotovic, is a Counterpart International Board Member. GFDD, FUNGLODE and Counterpart International implement collaborative
environmental and community development projects in the Dominican Republic.
