InteRDom and Fellows Program Connects with Students at the 7th Annual National Dominican Student Conference

April 2, 2013

The energy was tangible at the seventh edition of the National Dominican Student Conference at Wesleyan University on Saturday, March 30, 2013, as more than 400 students shared and cultivated ideas surrounding the conference’s theme, “Fighting Injustice, Making Headlines.”  For the sixth consecutive year, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) participated in the Conference through its programs InteRDom Internships and Fellows Program, which were quite popular among students energized by the opportunities both programs present to participate in social change in the Dominican Republic.

InteRDom and Fellows Program representatives were present at the “E Pa’lante que
Vamos” organization fair, where they met with many Dominican college students from all over the country to discuss their academic and career goals for the coming year, many of whom submitted applications on the spot to participate in summer internship opportunities.

Upon arrival at the fair, InteRDom was excited to find that one of the organizations represented was Una Nueva Vida, a grassroots nonprofit in the Dominican Republic founded by InteRDom Caribbean
Summer 2011 alumni, Jaynice del Rosario.  InteRDom is always enthusiastic to support alumni initiatives and to make new connections.  Representatives were also able to connect with the group Dominicans on Wall Street (DOWS) and create a new partnership for future events involving Dominican students and program alumni.

InteRDom and the Fellows Program’s participation in the Conference is part of the continual efforts that Global Foundation for
Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister organization in the Dominican Republic, FUNGLODE, make to strengthen collaboration with the Dominican descendants and professionals living in the United States and abroad.
