InteRDom Kicks off the School Year at Career Fairs

October 7, 2009
“Back to School” time for college students signals the beginning of the promotional season for InteRDom, and this autumn is proving to be a busy one! InteRDom attended three career fairs last month at Columbia and Fordham Universities, meeting over 200 interested students.

The first fair was Columbia University’s 2009 Fall Career Fair, held on September 25th and sponsored by the Center for Career Education. It boasted the participation of 1600 students and alumni and 110 organizations, including Disney ABC Television Group, Microsoft Corp., the Internal Revenue Service, Peace Corps and Teach for America, among others.

Just one week later, InteRDom representatives visited Columbia again, manning a stand at the Study Abroad and International Opportunities Fair on October 2nd. This fair featured work, study, teaching and internship programs from all over the world, as well as student alumni of these programs who were advising their peers on international
experiences.

The diverse and multicultural atmosphere at this fair proved very beneficial for InteRDom, as representatives had the opportunity to talk with dozens of students excited about traveling abroad.

In addition to these trips to Columbia University, InteRDom also visited Fordham University in the Bronx for their Job Central Career and Internship Fair on Wednesday, September 30th. Representatives were able to converse with many interested students, including members of the Dominican Diaspora and InteRDom program alumni!

Career, internship and study abroad fairs are an excellent opportunity for students to get general information about the InteRDom program, join the mailing list and pick up brochures. They provide an excellent venue for introduction to the program and its opportunities for internship, research and study.

Now that fair season has ended, InteRDom will concentrate on giving a series of information sessions at various universities around the New York City area. Information sessions are a great opportunity for students to see a presentation and video about the program and speak to a representative one-on-one, away from the noise and distractions that career fairs
sometimes bring.
