InteRDom Meets with Students and Faculty at Smith and Amherst Colleges

March 13, 2009

On March 11 and 12, 2009 InteRDom travelled to Massachusetts to visit with students, faculty and administrators at Smith and Amherst Colleges.  The trip was an important one for the InteRDom program, as it helped establish good working relationships with members of the Career Services Departments of both Colleges, as well as with professors and students interested in Latin American
Studies.

Smith and Amherst Colleges are part of 5 Colleges, Incorporated, a nonprofit educational consortium that promotes and administers long-term forms of cooperation that benefit the faculty, students, and staff of Smith College, Amherst College, Mt. Holyoke College, Hampshire College and University of Massachusetts Amherst.  Smith and Amherst Colleges
are located only 7 miles apart and collaborate for many activities and initiatives.

One of the highlights of the trip was the InteRDom information session given at Smith College and cosponsored by Smith’s Latina student group, Nosotras.  During the information session, InteRDom representatives had the opportunity to present the program to a number of students who have a strong interest in and ties to the Caribbean.  Afterward, they participated
in another Nosotras event, a talk given by speaker Ruth Trujillo about immigration issues in the United States.

InteRDom is currently planning to return to the 5 Colleges sometime in September to give an information session to a wider student audience.  If you would like for InteRDom to visit your university, please send an email to students@interdominternships.org.
