International Workshop-Seminar on Environmental Journalism

The International Center for Environmental and Sustainable Development Studies (CIEMADeS), in association with GFDD, FUNGLODE, the Universidad de La Habana in Cuba, the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, and the University of Turabo in Puerto Rico, offered an International Workshop-Seminar on Environmental Journalism. The workshop-seminar took place at FUNGLODE, July 2-7, 2007.
 
The objectives of this course were: to analyze pressing environmental issues and their particular impact on Caribbean nations; to devise strategies for how best to address the problems identified; to discuss the role of the media in combating environmental problems; and to present communication products created by participants that facilitate journalists’ capacity to raise awareness concerning environmental issues.
 
This workshop-seminar was instructed by professors from the Universidad de La Habana, the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, and the Universidad del Turabo.
 
This workshop-seminar consisted of 45 hours of instruction and was directed towards students and professionals in the fields of communications and environmental journalism.
