Leonel Fernández Heads Annual GFDD New York Golf Tournament Awards Ceremony

The former President of the Dominican Republic, Dr. Leonel Fernández, headed the annual golf tournament organized in the United States by the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD).

The awards ceremony was held at the Glen Head Country Club, in Glen Head,
NY.

As in past years one of baseball’s greatest legends, Dominican Juan Marichal, was the tournament’s distinguished patron.

The goal of the fundraising event is to continue backing the work the GFDD has carried  out for the past 15 years through programs that promote the social, economic and democratic development of Dominicans.

Event organizers announced that approximately 100 golfers participated in the event.

This year’s winners were Juan Alvarez, Víctor Hernández, Gay Claver, Andrés Geraldo, Andrés Marranzini, Elisaben Matos, Carlos Rodríguez, Leo Regalado, Ray Boriello, Mark H, Manuel Torres, Anibal Lantigua, Dessmond Coombes, Paul Lerner, Derek Coombs, Peter Ochoa, Jeff Pérez, Alejandro Mora and Erica Fuertes.

The trophies presented by Dr.
Fernández were made courtesy of José Ignacio Morales, owner of El Artístico, one of the D.R.’s most prestigious blacksmith shops.  Also present at the awards ceremony were Natasha Despotovic, GFDD’s Executive Director; Yamile Eusebio, Director of GFDD’s New York office; Rudy Fuentes, Kenia Hernández, Benny Rodríguez and Francisco Jorge, members of the tournament’s organizing committee.

Important
representatives of the Dominican community in New York  City also attended the event.
