Leonel Fernandez will participate in the Webinar “The Summit of the Americas, as seen from Latin America”

SANTO DOMINGO – On Tuesday, May 10, our president Leonel Fernández will participate in a webinar titled “The Summit of the Americas, as Seen from Latin America.” The event is organized by the FIU Green School, of the International University of Florida and the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA International), jointly with the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (Funglode) and Global Americans.

The former Dominican president will participate during the second day of the event, at 11:30 a.m., as a member of the panel titled “Conversation Among Former Presidents on What they Expect from the Ninth Summit of the Americas.”

Moderator: Luis Guillermo Solís, former President of Costa Rica and Acting Director of LACC, FIU.

The event´s opening remarks will be delivered at 11:00 a.m. by Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, former Congresswoman and Special Assistant to President Joseph Biden for the Summit of the Americas.

The event is organized to give continuity to the recently held Casa de Campo Global Forum titled “Onward to the Upcoming Summit of the Americas: Hemispheric Challenges and Renewed Perspectives.” The Forum was held this past March 29 in Casa de Campo, La Romana, Dominican Republic.

This follow-up event will open May 9, at 11:00 a.m. Introductory remarks will be delivered by Richard Feinberg, Professor Emeritus of the University of California, San Diego.

The first panel is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m., and is titled “Conversation Between Representatives of Civil Society Organizations on What They Expect from the Ninth Summit of the Americas.”
