About Mr. Jamil Ahmad

A distinguished diplomat and politician, Mr. Ahmad joined the Foreign Service of Pakistan in 1986. He is an experienced civil servant who has, over the past 28 years, worked in a number of different duty stations with rich experience of multilateral negotiations. These include his appointment as Acting Permanent Representative to the UN agencies in Rome (2007-08) and Deputy Permanent Representative to the UNEP in Nairobi (2001-05). In addition, Mr. Ahmad has participated in numerous important intergovernmental meetings, including the World Summit on Sustainable Development in 2002, sessions of the UN General Assembly, the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD) and the Governing Council/Global Ministerial Environment Forum of UNEP. He was a leading negotiator of the Group of 77 & China for Climate Change under Pakistan’s chairmanship in 2007, culminating at the 13th conference of the parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Bali in 2007. He finally joined UNEP in 2008, which he represents today as the Deputy Director of the New York Office.

About this Roundtable

Topic: At the end of June, the next edition of the GFDD Global Roundtables will host Mr. Jamil Ahmad, the Deputy Director of UNEP New York. Mr. Ahmad will express himself on a range of questions about the concept of Sustainable Consumption and Production in addition to UNEP’s role as Secretariat of the 10 Year Framework of Programmes (10YFP) on Sustainable Consumption and Production, and the  significance of the initiative altogether, with a particular focus on the success of its efforts in the Caribbean and the Dominican Republic in particular.
