New Perspectives: Dominican Republic is Now Available for Sale at New York City Book Stores

August 22, 2012

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) are pleased to announce that the publication New Perspectives: Dominican Republic is now available for purchase in book stores in New York City.

The book, originally released in 2007, was published as a second edition in 2011 to respond to the
requests of distributors in Latin America, the Caribbean and the United States.

New Perspectives: Dominican Republic can now be found at St. Mark’s Bookshop on the Lower East Side and Book Culture on the Upper West Side.

Since its establishment in 1977, St. Mark’s has been servicing the vicinity’s community of students, academics, artists and reading enthusiasts. The bookstore specializes in publications pertaining
to cultural theory, graphic design, poetry and small press publishing, film studies and foreign and domestic periodicals and journals.

Book Culture, founded in 1997 as Labyrinth Books and later established Book Culture, is a specialized vendor of scholarly books, and a well-known neighborhood meeting place. The locally-owned independent book business offers a wide range of publications in the arts and humanities, as well as new and classic fiction and nonfiction,
mysteries, cookbooks, graphic novels, home and craft books and travel guides.

New Perspectives: Dominican Republic can also be purchased via our online Portal Dominicanaonline.org http://www.dominicanaonline.org/Portal/English/Compras/Compras.asp and via Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/New-Perspectives-Dominican-Natasha-Despotovic/dp/9945412558.

The book, which is comprised of 400 aerial images of the 31 provinces and the National District of the Dominican Republic, has become a point
of reference for the national population and the numerous Dominicans that reside outside of the country, as well as for foreign visitors, the nation’s commercial sector, students, art and photography aficionados and all those interested in developing a better understanding of the Dominican Republic. The publication is divided into 9 chapters – Reflections of Light, Coasts, Heights, Plains, History, City, People, Tourism and Work – that contain text pertaining to various aspects of the
country’s history, culture, environment and contemporary life. The photos were taken by Dominican-based French photographer, Anne Casale, under the direction of editor-in-chief and creator, Natasha Despotovic.

Images from the book have also been featured in a traveling photography exhibit. The exhibit has been showed with much success nationally and internationally in Latin America, the United States and Europe.

GFDD and FUNGLODE look forward to
establishing a long-term partnership with both bookstores that promotes the work of our institutions.
