Over 500 Dominican and International Students Will Represent UN Member States at NYDRMUN 2008

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) and the United Nations Association of the Dominican Republic (UNA-DR) will organize the sixth edition of the Dominican Republic Model United Nations Conference in New York (NYDRMUN), March 13-15, 2008, at Fordham University and the United Nations Headquarters.
 
During the Conference,
students will represent their respective countries while serving as delegates of the diverse organs and organisms of the United Nations. Over the course of the three days, the delegates will simulate sessions of the United Nations General Assembly; the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization; the United Nations International Court of Justice; the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific; the United Nations
Security Council; and the United Nations Economic and Social Council.
 
Working groups will discuss topics of importance on the UN agenda, such as: strategies for eliminating international terrorism, sustainable economic growth that favors the economically disenfranchised, and the anti-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, amongst other issues of concern. Topics will be debated in Spanish and English, two official languages of
the United Nations.
 
GFDD and FUNGLODE organize educational activities in association with the United Nations Association of the Dominican Republic that seek to promote civic participation and raise awareness of global issues.
