President Leonel Fernandez Announces Creation of Consultative Board in New York

Dr. Leonel Fernández, President of the Dominican Republic and honorary President of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development, announced the creation of a Consultative Board in New York whose mission is the implementation of the recommended actions included in the
book "Strategic Alliance between the Dominican Republic and New York City ".

The President made this announcement at the launching

 

event of the book, which contains valuable research on the socioeconomic status of the Dominican and American-Dominican individuals living in New York and other states in the U.S. Mr. Fernandez assigned Dr. Ramona Hernández as the president of the Consultative Board. Additionally, he mentioned that this board will be composed of one director per each strategic area: education, health, science and technology, civil participation, investment and business.

During the event, Mrs. María Elizabeth Rodríguez, Director of the FUNGLODE Project Dominican Republic- New York City presented the results of the study. Mrs. Rodríguez and Dr. Hernández are the book’s co-editors. In her presentation, she mentioned that the study, accomplished by Dominican academics living in NY, is to create a sustainable platform to promote the
implementation of relevant policies, as well as to encourage the development of exchange projects. She also recommended to create a public institution for the Dominican community in the U.S. , improve the Dominican consulate services, improve the relationship between Dominican individuals living abroad and their respective embassies and consulates and support the diasporas networks to leverage their influence in the U.S. and other countries.

Dr.
Fernández is planning to visit New York City in early March for the official appointment of Consultative Board members.
