Seminar on Sustainable Energy in Dominican Republic

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) will present the seminar, “Opportunities for Sustainable Energy in the Dominican Republic,” on January 17, 2008, from 8:30 am – 6:30 pm, at FUNGLODE Headquarters in Santo Domingo. This seminar will form part of the International Week on Energy taking place in the Dominican Republic, January 14-18. The events taking place in
the Dominican Republic will be organized by the National Commission on Energy, together with thirty public and private institutions and international organisms.
 
The colossal event will unite ministers of energy, high-level government representatives, scientists, experts, business executives and investors together with representatives from development organisms and international cooperation and provide a platform of exchange concerning
the global energy situation and the solutions offered by various forms of energy so as to motivate political action, facilitate the transfer of technology and knowledge, and promote business opportunities in the area of energy, in turn contributing to the search for viable low-environmental impact solutions to energy problems at the national, regional and global levels.   
 
The event will
feature presentations by the following international experts: Omar Ramírez, Minister of Environment and Natural Resources of the Dominican Republic; Juan Ormazabal, President of CENER, Spain; Heinz Leuenberger, Director of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization’s Energy and Cleaner Production Branch, Austria; Carmen Rozado Fernández, Advisor for the National Commission of Energy for Spain; Moisés Álvarez, Vice-Secretary
of Environmental Management, Dominican Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources; Ubaldo Elizondo, Coordinator of the Commercialization of Carbon Market Projects, Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF – Railroad Construction and Maintenance); Nelly Cuello, Consultant for the Transport and Industry Sector of the National Office on the Clean Development Mechanism (ONMDL); Onésimo González, Technician, Oficina Nacional para el Reordenamiento del
Transporte (OPRET – National Office for Transportation); Ignacio Ditren, Director, Oficina Metropolitana de Servicios de Autobuses (OMSA – Metropolitan Office of Bus Services); and Milcíades Polanco Pérez, President, Fondo para el Desarrollo del Transporte (FONDET – Fund for Transport Development).
 
The event is being organized in response to the need to renovate and diversify energy
generating sources which every day are in increasingly greater demand. The seminar is open to the public, free of cost.
