UNA-DR, GFDD and FUNGLODE Will Host Seventh Annual Model United Nations in NYC

March 27, 2009

More than 400 Dominican students will participate in the 2009 New York Dominican Republic Model United Nations (NYDRMUN), which will take place April 2 – 3 at the Millennium Plaza Hotel and April 4 at United Nations Headquarters in New York City.

This will be the seventh occasion that the United Nations Association of the Dominican Republic (UNA-DR), Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia
y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) organize this gathering, which seeks to educate students from the Dominican Republic and other parts of the world about the work of the United Nations through educational and humanitarian-based projects.

A primary objective of NYDRMUN 2009 is to provide a platform in which students can engage in discussion about the principal challenges that presently confront the international
community in order to devise possible solutions.

This initiative is organized in collaboration with the Mission of the Dominican Republic before the United Nations and with support from Turinter L’Alianxa.

Each year, hundreds of Dominican students actively participate in the debates that take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Participating in NYDRMUN is a unique opportunity that provides
students with an inside look into the work conducted by representatives of the distinct global delegations that comprise the United Nations.

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo actively support the United Nations Association of the Dominican Republic. UNA-DR is the primary promoter of the work carried out by the United Nations in the Dominican Republic. UNA-DR supports the mission of the UN by
coordinating educational and cultural activities that seek to raise public awareness and motivate civic participation.
