InteRDom Students Become More Acquainted with the Intricacies of their Summer Internships

June 18, 2008
On June 10, 2008, as part of the week-long orientation session, InteRDom’s Business Day acquainted students with the intricacies of their internships. During the event, representatives from participating organizations and businesses presented in-depth descriptions of the programs and projects with which the interns would be working. Students had the opportunity to meet with their respective employers, become familiar with their institutions’ training
programs, and ask questions prior to beginning their internships.

InteRDom’s Business day plays a pivotal role, not only in orienting interns to their new work environments and responsibilities, but also in expanding students’ understanding of the objectives and functionings of a variety of companies and organizations that comprise various economic sectors in the Dominican Republic.

The following institutions participated in the forum: the UN International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (INSTRAW), Universal de Seguros, Falconbridge Dominicana, the United Nations Development Programme/ the Office for the National Coordinator for European Development Funds (UNDP/ONFED), the UNDP Small Grants Program, Fundación Institucionalidad y Justicia (FINJUS – Institutionality and Justice
Foundation), World Vision, Pan American Development Foundation, the Organization of American States (OAS) and Alianza ONG (NGO Alliance).

InteRDom, an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), offers students the opportunity to gain professional experience by interning with Dominican organizations and businesses related to their field of study.

The Program fosters and promotes the professional, academic, scientific, technological and cultural exchange of students and professionals in public, private and non-profit organizations of the Dominican
Republic. It significantly contributes to the development of the nation’s employment sector and the advancement of academic research, while providing spaces for personal and professional growth, internationalization and multicultural understanding.
