Natasha Despotovic Presents the Global Media Arts Institute

During the VIII Conference of Virtual Educa Brazil, under the section: Cultural Industries, GFDD Executive Director, Natasha Despotovic, presented the Global Media Arts Institute (GMAI), a new initiative of GFDD and its sister institution, Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) in the Dominican Republic.
 
 
GMAI strives to create a highly qualified multimedia industry in the Dominican Republic that will decisively contribute to the economic development of the nation. The Institute offers innovative workshops, courses, and seminars on audiovisual production with renowned industry professionals, and fosters the establishment of professional associations between Dominicans and international professionals within the industry. GMAI also
organizes cultural activities that further understanding of the audiovisual arts, such as film screenings, panel discussions, and interviews with artists and technicians.
 
Although GMAI has been developing initiatives since early 2006, the Institute was not officially launched until November 17, 2006.
 
GMAI conducts collaborative work with prestigious international programs and
institutions such as New York University’s Opportunity Program, One Race Films, and the Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión de Cuba (the Cuban International School of Film and Television.
