GFDD and FUNGLODE Participate in Partners Against Poverty Meeting Organized by PPAF

InteRDom Organizes Weekend Excursion to Las Galeras
New York, 7/16/2008
During the previous weekend, the InteRDom Program organized a trip to the Samaná Penninsula for an overnight stay in Las Galeras, renown worldwide for its exquisite virgin landscapes. Travelling along the newly constructed Samaná highway, the group had the opportunity to view a cross section of the nation’s countryside. Upon arriving at the hotel Villa Serena, students swam, explored the beach, rode bikes along trails that paralleled the coastline and relaxed while enjoying the scenic grounds of the hotel.

InteRDom Offers Seminar on Haitian Immigrants in the Dominican Republic

Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), in collaboration with the Alianza ONG and the Instituto Tecnológico de las Americas (Technical Institute of the Americas – ITLA), are offering a course on introductory computer usage to non-governmental organization representatives. Throughout the class, participants will develop working knowledge of the functions of the Windows Operating Systems (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), as well as Internet usage.

InteRDom Program Organizes Cultural Trip to Salcedo and Santiago

On Saturday, June 28, 2008, the InteRDom program organized its second major excursion of the summer, a cultural trip to visit the Mirabal Sisters Museum in Salcedo and the Centro Leon in Santiago. During the three-hour bus ride to the interior, tour guide, Tirso Cabra, recounted the story of the Mirabal Sisters. Among the most famous female protagonists throughout Dominican history, the sisters where ordered to be killed by former dictator, Rafael Trujillo.

The Dominican Republic Global Film Festival (DRGFF) was presented to a select Hollywood community as part of a four-day visit to California by the DRGFF General Director, Natasha Despotovic, and the Festival Marketing and Promotion Manager, Asuncion Sanz, which included meetings with filmmakers like Sandra Condito, Ivette Rodriguez, Elizabeth Avellan, Bret Ratner, the Director of UCLA Film and TV Archive Department, Dr. Jan-Christopher Horak, the Director of the UCLA School of Film, TV and Theater, Barbara Boyle, and the Director of the Creative Writing Program of the University of California at Riverside, Dr. Tom Lutz and Cathryn Galan and Octavio Marín of the National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP), among others.

The internship program, InteRDom, an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), officially welcomed the interns participating in the 2008 Summer Program with a party at the restaurant, El Conuco. The 15 students, representing eight universities, were immersed in popular Dominican culture during their first week in the country at this restaurant, where they dined, danced and took in the ambiance offered by this local, one of the most famous in the Dominican Republic.

Official Start of InteRDom’s Spanish as a Second Language Program
New York, 6/12/2008
InteRDom’s Spanish as a Second Language Course officially began June 11, 2008. The class forms part of the InteRDom 2008 Academic Summer Program. The course will offer participants the tools necessary to develop competency in the Spanish language. Students will work on their vocabulary and participate in debates which will allow them to apply acquired knowledge of grammatical structures.
