The Dominican Republic Global Film Festival Present at Sundance
Representatives of the Dominican Republic Global Film Festival (DRGFF) attended the 26th annual Sundance Film Festival held in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah between January 21-31.

GFDD and FUNGLODE Participate in UNU Forum on Ranking World Think Tanks
On January 21, 2010, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) partook in the discussion forum organized by the United Nations University, “World Ranking of Think Tanks,” at the UN Headquarters in New York.

The Global Media Arts Institute Breaks Into the World of Theater Arts
The Global Media Arts Institute (GMAI) presented a workshop on acting with Obie Award winning writer, actor and director, Roger Guenveur Smith, January 12-14, 2010. Twenty aspiring actors interested in theater arts participated in the workshop that emphasized improvisation and coordination of voice and movement.

“La Soga” and “P-Star Rising” Receive Audience Awards from the III Dominican Global Film Festival
La Soga took first prize in the Best Picture category while P-Star Rising took the top prize for Best Documentary in the Audience Awards. The winning awards, announced by the directors of the III Dominican Global Film Festival, were chosen by viewers who attended the festival and voted in the various categories.

GMAI to Offer Course on Scriptwriting
The Global Media Arts Institute (GMAI), an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), will offer a two-week course on scriptwriting in collaboration with Escuela Internacional de Cine y TV (EICTV) in Cuba.

GFDD, FUNGLODE and the International School of Film and Television (EICTV) in Cuba Will Offer Scholarships to Dominican Students
The Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión (EICTV), of San Antonio de los Baños, is launching a scholarship competition for young Dominicans 22 to 29-years of age interested in studying at the prestigious institution for a period of three years, 2010-2013.

Help Save Lives in Haiti !
On Jan. 12, 2010, a massive 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck southern Haiti, reducing much of its capital Port-Au-Prince to rubble. It was the worst earthquake in the region in more than 200 years, with thousands upon thousands feared dead.

GFDD and FUNGLODE Attend the Annual Meeting of the American Historical Association, the Largest Gathering for Professional Historians in the United States
Representatives from Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister institution in Santo Domingo Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) attended the 124th Annual Meeting of the American Historical Association that took place in San Diego, California, January 7-10, 2010.
