Leonel Fernández Urges Educators Not to Replace the Arts for Science and Technology
The former President of the Dominican Republic and President of Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode) and Global Foundation for Democracy and Development, Dr. Leonel Fernández, invited educators not to replace the arts for science and technology, speaking at the opening of the 26th Annual Conference of the Association of Academic Programs in Latin America and the Caribbean (AAPLAC), organized by the internship program InteRDom, an initiative of GFDD.

Commission Chair Miculescu Concludes the 53rd Session of the Commission for Social Development Following Successful Adoption of Four Draft Resolutions
GFDD was present for the fifty third session of the Commission for Social Development, which took place from February 4 to 13, under the Priority Theme “Rethinking and strengthening social development in the contemporary world”. The conference was open for contributions on the Priority Theme by ECOSOC accredited civil society organizations such as GFDD as well as UN Member States. It also served as the setting for 3 panel discussions on the priority theme and the post-2015
development agenda, as well as 24 side events by civil society and UN member states on related themes.

26th Annual AAPLAC Conference Opens in Santo Domingo
On the evening of February 18, 2015 more than 75 local and international education and exchange professionals gathered in the auditorium of Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode) in Santo Domingo to officially open the 26th Annual Conference of the Association of Academic Programs in Latin America and the Caribbean (AAPLAC). The event marked the beginning of a 4-day conference for representatives of international exchange programs to discuss the theme “Preparing
Today’s Students to Uncover Local Realities in Latin America and the Caribbean.”

200 Dominicans Teachers Learn about Creative Ways of Recycling Waste
Raising awareness through school, family and community, and the importance of caring for the planet to ensure the feeding supply for future generations: this was the main theme of the conference-workshop organized on February 13 by GFDD/Funglode, the LEA Plan educational program and the Listin Diario newspaper, as part of activities marking the XXII edition of the Week of Geography.

Newest Fellow Jenna Giandoni Researches the Impact of Investments in Sustainable Environmental Projects in the Dominican Republic
The Fellows Program, an initiative of GFDD and FUNGLODE, is happy to introduce its latest scholar Jenna Giandoni, dual master’s candidate in Business Administration and Science Environmental Management & Sustainability at Illinois Institute of Technology. Jenna’s research focuses on impact investing as it is applied to environmentally sustainable businesses in the Dominican Republic. Her field work through the Fellows Program will be conducted over a three month period, from
January to March 2015.

DREFF Participated in the Festival International du Film D’ Environnement (FIFE)
Île-de-France, a region that is successfully achieving ecological and social transition to sustainable development, has just celebrated the thirty-second edition of the festival’s most important environmental films from France and one of the largest in Europe, Festival International du Film d’Environnement (FIFE by its French acronym). Team members of the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) traveled to France to participate in the prestigious event, which is also a
meeting point of the festivals that are part of the Green Film Network (GFN), a worldwide association to which the DREFF belongs since January 1st of this year.

InteRDom to Host More than 50 International Educators at 26th Annual AAPLAC Conference
