Dominicans Get Together to Enjoy a Magical Night with Pavel Nuñez in New York
The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) has once again brought together the Dominican community in New York City, this time to present the famous Dominican singer, musician, and songwriter Pavel Nunez. The popular event was held at the Symphony Space Theater in Manhattan this past Thursday, May 28 at 6:30 p.m.

Leonel Fernández Presents Lecture on Political Science at Catholic University of Santo Domingo
Former President of the Republic and current president of Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode), Dr. Leonel Fernández, welcomed the fact that many Dominicans are studying various aspects of Political Science.

Multi-stakeholder respondents call for NGOs to be Involved in the Planning, Implementation and Review Stages of the Post 2015 Development Agenda
GFDD/Funglode attended the Informal Interactive Hearings with Representatives of Non-governmental Organizations, Civil Society, Major Groups and the Private Sector on the Post-2015 Development Agenda from Tuesday May 26 to Wednesday May 27.

DREFF and Dominican Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Work Together to Promote Social-Economic Development
The Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of the Dominican Republic signed a collaboration agreement with the aim of promoting sustainable social-economic development and environmental awareness in the Dominican Republic. Natasha Despotovic, Executive Director of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), and Bautista Rojas Gómez, Environment and Natural Resources Minister, signed the agreement,
the goals of which include promoting a culture that encourages the proper management and use of natural resources in Dominican society.

GFDD/Funglode Showcases its ReCrearte Program at the UN as a Model for Sustainability and the Empowerment of Local Communities
GFDD & Funglode partnered with the NGO Committees on Financing for Development and Social Development to hold a panel discussion entitled Do we have the Courage to Put People and Planet First? The Challenges of Financing for Development during the Intergovernmental Negotiations on the Post-20I5 Development Agenda on Friday May 22. The lunchtime event, which was moderated by Barbara Adams, Senior Policy Advisor of the Global Policy Forum opened the event before
a packed auditorium comprised of civil society representatives, UN Member State delegates and UN agency representatives.

Dominican Get-Togethers Presents “Pavel Núñez: Telling Great Stories Through Music” in New York
The famous singer and songwriter Pavel Núñez, a young Dominican who conquers audiences with love stories and great music, will be participating in the 4th Dominican Get-Together of this year, an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), on Thursday, May 28 at 6:30 p.m. in New York City.

Friends of Funglode Chapters Form to Broaden Horizons of Organization
The initiative, Friends of Funglode Chapters, made headway in the consolidation of its project that aims to support all levels of development in the Dominican Republic. In a first step toward that goal, a group of representatives from 15 of the country’s 31 provinces visited Funglode in Santo Domingo on Sunday, May 17.

Suzan Beraza and David Byars Share Their Secrets for Creating Impact Documentaries
Seeking to encourage young Dominican filmmakers, the Globo Verde Dominicano Award and the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) presented the workshop “Creating and developing concepts for short film documentaries.” The presentation took place yesterday in Santo Domingo at Funglode’s headquarters. During a lively class led by documentary filmmakers Suzan Beraza and David Byars, 60+ participants had the opportunity to learn basic techniques for developing a
documentary film and some “secrets” to creating works of impact.

Fernando Villalona Reflects on his Personal Life, Career and Bond with Dominican Culture
For its third Dominican Get-Together (DGT) of 2015, GFDD/Funglode welcomed Fernando Villalona, el Mayimbe, one of the most important musicians of the Dominican Republic, at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York on Thursday, May 14. Villalona sat down with Maria Victoria Abreu Malla, GFDD’s International Affairs and Socio-Economic Development Program Manager, to talk about his life and music career that spans more than four decades, before giving a live rendition of some of his
most famous songs.
