  • GFDD and Funglode to Launch Climate Change Publication at the UN during the General Assembly 70th Meeting

    GFDD and Funglode will launch a new edition of their publication series Research and Ideas in English and in Spanish, on Thursday October 1 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. The publication which is titled Climate Change in the Dominican Republic: Coastal Resources and Communities isauthored by 2014 GFDD Fellows, Ms. Hilary Lohmann and Mr. Mat Rosa, post graduate students in Marine Affairs at the University of Rhode Island.

  • Garbage or Resource? A Dominican Republic Experience Set to Screen at International Environment & Wildlife Film Festival and Forum on October 13

    GFDD’s short film “Garbage or Resource? A Dominican Republic Experience” will be screened on October 13th, 2015 at the 8th CMS Vatavaran International Environment & Wildlife Film Festival and Forum, India’s only International Film Festival, which takes place in New Delhi, October 9-13, 2015, at the Convention Centre. The film festival has become one of the most prestigious film festivals across the globe, and has been partners with GFDD’s Dominican Republic
    Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) since early 2015. Both festivals are members of the Green Film Network.

  • Over 100 Players Join GFDD/Funglode VI Golf Classic

    More than 100 golf players participated yesterday in the 6th Golf Tournament at Glen Head Country Club in New York. In a relaxed atmosphere, the players enjoyed perfect weather for playing golf and a day full of activities that culminated with a gala dinner attended by the President of GFDD and Funglode, Dr. Leonel Fernández. The event is part of GFDD’s initiatives to promote fundraising to support the implementation of a variety of projects, while spending time with partners and
    friends of GFDD. The kickoff of the tournament was conducted, once again, by Dominican world-famous former baseball player Juan Marichal, while Natasha Despotovic, Executive Director of GFDD, gave the welcome remarks.

  • University of Washington and GDAE Summer Institute in Transnational Law Ends on a High Note

    The newest partnership with the Global Dominican Academic Exchange (GDAE) program and the Summer Institute in Transnational Law and Practice at the University of Washington (UW) School of Law came to a successful close this week, where six Dominican law students earned a certificate for the two week-long program, from September 4-18, 2015. The students will return to the Dominican Republic with new understanding of the various methods of legal analysis and argumentation practiced in
    the United States.

  • Expo RD Recicla at DREFF

    One of the activities that attracted the most visitors and aroused the most curiosity from the public and the guests of the Dominican Environmental Film Festival was the Expo RD Recicla, in which the ReCrearte program, an initiative of GFDD/Funglode, exhibited the work of some of its most talented students, along with the coordinator, Bertha Santana. During the week, the public was able to appreciate the art and objects created from discarded materials and could purchase some of the
    most prized pieces in the Funglode gallery. The same room held the exhibition Oxígeno, in which Spanish photographer Juan Carlos Véla offered the public a journey across the Dominican Republic, recounting their three year expedition exploring the country’s coastline, forests, hills, and other natural enclaves.

  • GFDD/Funglode VI Golf Classic to be Held September 21th

    This event helps benefit GFDD/Funglode and its programs which support social, economic and democratic development in the Dominican Republic. It also serves as a networking opportunity for high-ranking officials, industry leaders, business executives, and celebrities.

  • The Film Racing Extinction and Prize-Winning Director, Louie Psihoyos, Bring DREFF 2015 to a Close

    The film Racing Extinction and its award-winning director, Louie Psihoyos, honored a total of 120 screenings yesterday, which took place over the course of 6 days, in 11 cities in the country and at the 30 locations of the 5th annual Dominican Environmental Film Festival. National and international guests, representatives of government and non-governmental organizations, experts and the general public attended last night to see one of the most anticipated documentaries in the past
    years, which was shown in Santo Domingo last night before its worldwide television premiere a few weeks from now.
