  • OAS Ambassador for Honduras Explains How Country’s Inclusion in New Partnership Could Provide Access to Improved Infrastructure, New Technology

    For this October edition of the GFDD Global Roundtables, GFDD Executive Director, Natasha Despotovic welcomed Ambassador Leonidas Rosa Bautista, Permanent Representative of the Mission of Honduras, for a session focused on the outcomes of the 45th Regular Session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), held on June 15 and 16 June 2015 in Washington, DC. The meeting also considered the OAS Ministerial Meeting organized in Honduras on October 19th and 20th
    and the potential inclusion of Honduras to the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement being negotiated by 12 Pacific Rim countries.

  • DREFF and the Alliance Française of Santo Domingo Promote Environmental Awareness

    The Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) and the Alliance Française in Santo Domingo will be screening two environmental films to promote sustainable development and environmental awareness for the community of students, professors, and friends of the French educational organization, as well as the general public. Both selected films—The LightBulb Conspiracy and The E-Waste Tragedy—are French co-productions directed by European
    filmmaker Cosima Dannoritzer.

  • GFDD Fellows Present Climate Change Adaptation Research Findings through Book Launch Event at University of Rhode Island

    In the third and final installment of the release of the latest publication in the series, Research and Ideas, entitled, “Climate Change in the Dominican Republic: Impact on Coastal Resources and Communities,” the Fellows Program of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) invited GFDD Fellows Hilary Lohmann and Mat Rosa to give a special presentation of their research findings at their alma mater, the University of Rhode
    Island (URI) on October 29, 2015. The presentations were followed by a panel discussion and Q & A with the Fellows and an expert in the field, Donald Robadue, Senior Coastal Manager at the University’s Coastal Resources Center (CRC).

  • Announcing Fellows Publication Launch and Panel Discussion on Climate Change Adaptation at the University of Rhode Island

    The Fellows Program is excited to host a panel discussion and publication launch for a new edition of the GFDD publication series, Research and Ideas, on Thursday October 29, 2015, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the University of Rhode Island (URI) in Kingston, Rhode Island. The publication, titled: Climate Change in the Dominican Republic: Coastal Resources and Communities, is co-authored by 2014 GFDD Fellows, Ms. Hilary Lohmann and Mr. Mat Rosa, post graduate
    alumni in Marine Affairs at URI, who will be presenting on the panel.

    In light of recent attacks in Ankara, Turkey, the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) and other members of the Green Film Network (GFN) are expressing their support for Bozcaada International Festival of Ecological Documentary (BIFED), a fellow international film festival.
