  • Tools to Become A Writer of the 21st Century

    Once again, The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) on its continuous effort to contribute to the social, economic, and cultural development of Dominican professionals in the homeland and abroad, presented the workshop titled “To Be a Writer 2.0: Tools to Become a Writer of the 21st Century,” on November 16th and 17th in collaboration with the Comisionado Dominicano de Cultura in New York City.

  • Villa Serena Hotel Hosts ReCrearte Workshop Series as Part of Social Responsibility Program

    A creative recycling program was held at the scenic Villa Serena Hotel in Las Galeras, Samaná as part of the hotel’s social responsibility program. ReCrearte, an initiative of GFDD/Funglode, is coordinated by Bertha Santana and focuses on the three R’s of sustainability- reduce, reuse, and recycle. Workshops concentrate on repurposing discarded materials into new objects that can be sold for income.

  • Business Students Connect over Dominican Culture at Babson College GDAE Program

    In celebration of International Education Week, Babson College Dominican students hosted five college students from the Dominican Republic on their campus as part of the Global Dominican Academic Exchange program, from November 2-8, 2015. The students bonded over cultural similarities while also being immersed in American-style business classes at Babson College.

  • Film Series “Earth! Action! Understanding the Environmental Crisis” Screens Documentaries as DREFF and Alliance Française Prepare for COP21

    Within the framework of the XXI International Conference on Climate Change (COP21), to be held soon in Paris, the Alliance Française, in collaboration with the Dirección General de Cine, organized a free film series called “Tierra! Acción! Entender la Crisis Medioambiental” (Earth! Action! Understanding the Environmental Crisis), that was held at the Cinemateque in Santo Domingo from November 5th – 8th. The Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF),
    through its Year-Round Environmental Film Screening program, took part in the series with two films by European director Cosima Dannoritzer: The E-Waste Tragedy and The Light Bulb Conspiracy.

  • ASOVEUSA Awards GFDD/Funglode for Their Support of La Vega Residents in the Diaspora

    The Asociación de Veganos en los Estados Unidos (ASOVEUSA – Association of La Vega Residents in the US) celebrated its 5th anniversary with a gala dinner in which they recognized various Dominican individuals and institutions that stand out for their support of citizens of La Vega who live abroad. Among those recognized was the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister institution in the Dominican Republic, Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo
    (Funglode).

  • New York Welcomes a New Edition of the Dominican Film Showcase with an Exciting Action Film

    The Dominican Film Showcase, an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), returned to New York City last night, and it did so with the action film Código Paz, by filmmaker Pedro Urrutia. One of the stars, Héctor Aníbal, traveled from the Dominican Republic to share the evening with the public and the staff of GFDD at the Symphony Space on Broadway in New York.
