GFDD/Funglode Praises Dominican Women Writers in the US
“The 13th International Book Fair of Dominican Women Writers in the United States, dedicated this year to the writer Kianny Antigua, was held in New York from March 18 to March 20, with the theme: “The feminine creation is auto-reflective “. The fair, one of the most important events of the Dominican writers community residing in New York City, welcomed once again the presence of GFDD/Funglode, which in addition to be present with a stand, participated in various activities and
organized a workshop on recycled art through its program ReCrearte.

Anthony Davidson Appointed New Member of GFDD Advisory Committee
GFDD is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Anthony R. Davidson, Dean of the School of Business at Manhattanville College, as the newest member of the foundation’s Advisory Committee. Davidson, who has spent the past 30 years leading organizations and managing key initiatives across a wide range of industries, and generating new growth opportunities that create enduring value, was appointed after meeting with GFDD President Leonel Fernández, in New York.

Women Artisans Learn to Create Art from Waste at CUNY
The City University of New York (CUNY) hosted a workshop of creative recycling organized by the GFDD program ReCrearte, within a series of workshops held in March in New York City, March 17. The event, led by Bertha Santana, was aimed at women artisans, who learned to recover waste and transform it into new objects and designs. Participants amazingly made personal accessories out of plastic bags.

Praising Dominican Natural Beauty and Creating Environmental Awareness at the DCEFF
There were conversations about environmental awareness and sustainable development as well as praise for the natural beauty of the Dominican Republic. Film was once again used not just for entertainment but as a vehicle to show the world the issues that most matter and to spread the word about them, because they are after all, global and touch us all. Parents and Children Learn About Creative Recycling at School
As part of a series of workshops, organized by GFDD’s ReCrearte program through March in New York, on Wednesday the 16th, Juan Pablo Duarte School opened its doors to around 60 parents and 30 children. The workshop by ReCrearte coordinator Bertha Santana was possible thanks to the collaboration of the institution´s Parents Association, in particular Carmen Rojas, and the support of the Dominican Consulate in NY.

GFDD hosted a panel discussion at the UN today to celebrate the 60th Session on the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW60). The event, entitled “Efforts to Reduce Violence against Women and Promote Gender Empowerment in the Dominican Republic and Abroad”, looked to contribute to the review theme of CSW60: The elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls.

Celebrating Women at the DCEFF
