More than 300 Students Attend the ReCrearte Workshop Series Hosted in Collaboration with Eco Escuelas Program
Friday, April 15 concluded the series of creative recycling workshops offered by the GFDD program ReCrearte, as part of the Instituto de Derecho Ambiental de la República Dominicana´s project Eco Escuelas. The workshops were taught in a total of nine schools, with the aim of raising awareness about today”s environmental challenges and promoting good practices on recycling and sustainable development.

Dominican Author Jimmy Sierra”s Latest Work Will Be Presented Next Week in New York
The latest work of the Dominican writer Jimmy Sierra, Idolatría, will be presented next Tuesday April 26 in New York, in the prestigious Union League Club. The writer will attend the event, sponsored by Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode) and the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), accompanied by the President of both foundations and former President of the Dominican Republic, Dr. Leonel Fernández.

Year Round Environmental Film Screenings Program Reaches Cooperativa Altagracia in Santiago de los Caballeros
With the participation of more than 180 members of the cooperative La Altagracia, the DREFF Year Round Environmental Film Screenings Program projected, Thursday, April 14, the documentary “Lake Enriquillo: Prelude to Climate Change” in Santiago de los Caballeros. The environmental screening took place within the framework of the event Tertulia Cooperativista, “with the intention of raising awareness and educating the cooperative community on the issue of climate change, especially in
the national context to raise levels of awareness”, explained the Environmental Programs Coordinator of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) in the Dominican Republic , Omar Shamir Reynoso.

Milly Quezada, Inside and Out
Latin Grammy-winning Dominican merengue singer Milly Quezada will take the stage on April 21 at Symphony Space in New York for the second Dominican Get Together of 2016. Students from 8 Different Academic Institutions Learn About Lake Enriquillo and Climate Change
Within the framework of the program of the Week of Geography and in collaboration with Listín Diario’s Plan Lea, DREFF’s Year Round Environmental Film Screenings Program presented to more than 160 students from 8 academic institutions the documentary Lake Enriquillo: Prelude to Climate Change, produced and directed by the famous Dominican filmmaker Fernando Báez.

Celebrating the Global Youth Service Day
The foundations joined with a stand promoting their programs and publications and showcasing opportunities for young people to volunteer at the Dominican Republic Film Festival (DREFF) and other projects. More than a thousand people walked by the stand and other participating organizations showed interest in DREFF too.

Suzan Beraza: “It’s impressive to see how the filmmaking industry has grown in the Dominican Republic in the last couple of years”
A total of 25 filmmakers that are developing projects concerning environment and sustainable development in the Dominican Republic attended on April 8 and 9 the workshop: “From Idea to Screen: How to Make Environmental Documentaries”, organized by the Dominican Republic Film Festival (DREFF) and Globo Verde Dominicano Award. The participants worked personally with the instructors on the development of their short film ideas, the design of the main characters, writing the script,
choosing a technical team, planning and preparing content, among others.

GFDD Presents 7 Grams at the 2016 Princeton Environmental Film Festival
GFDD was present on the final day of the Princeton Environmental Film Festival to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the festival and introduce a screening of 7 Gramos, the winning film of the DREFF’s 2015 Globo Verde Dominicano Award.
