GFDD/Funglode is Officially Accredited to the UN Climate Change Community following Its Attendance of the 22nd Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC
GFDD/Funglode was present at the 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Marrakesh, Morocco from Monday November 7 to Friday November 11, 2016. GFDD’s UN Programs and Outreach Manager, Marc Jourdan attended the session together with twenty thousand other climate change experts from across the globe, stemming from both the public and the private sector. During GFDD’s attendance of the main plenary
session, Salaheddine Mezouar, COP 22 President, confirmed the official accreditation confirmation of GFDD as an observer organization of the UNFCCC process.

Making Our Oceans Great Again: DREFF Team Is Proud to Be Part of the BLUE Ocean Film Festival
The BlUE Ocean Film Festival and Summit took place once again in Saint Petersburg, Florida, from November 10 to 14. The DREFF’s (Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival) and GFDD’s Executive Director, Natasha Despotovic, attended the four busy days of film screenings, panels, workshops and discussions, together with Semiramis De Miranda, DREFF’s Director of Digital Publications and Media.

7 Grams, Winner of 2015 Globo Verde Dominicano Award, Screens in Trinidad and Tobago
On November 6, 2016 the short film 7 Grams was screened at The Botanical Gardens of Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, as part of the sixth edition of Green Screen T&T, the country’s environmental film festival hosted by Sustain T&T.

Civil Society Groups and the IDB Debate Best Path for Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean
More than 400 representatives of non-governmental organizations from throughout Latin America and the Caribbean on Nov. 8 initiated a two-day debate on the best way to achieve sustainable growth in the region, to improve the lives of current and future generations. Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode) attended the meeting as members of the civil society, represented by Omar Shamir Reynoso.

Flor de Azúcar: A Stop in New York on the Way to the Oscars
On its way to the Oscars, the Dominican film Flor de Azúcar from director Fernando Báez made a stop in New York to be screened for the press and people from the arts world. The event, held in the Dominican Commission of Culture of the United States (CODOCUL), was organized by the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism with support from CODOCUL, the Dominican Film Festival in New York, and the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD). During the
screening, in which the director of GFDD’s New York office, Yamile Eusebio, served as MC, Báez was present alongside the ambassador from the Dominican Mission to the UN, Francisco Cortorreal, among others.

The Asociación de Veganos en los Estados Unidos (ASOVEUSA – Association of La Vega Residents in the US) celebrated its 6th anniversary with a gala dinner, last Saturday, in which they recognized various Dominican individuals and institutions that stand out for their support of citizens of La Vega who live abroad.

Los Fabulosos Má Mejores: Laughter, Tenderness, Baseball, Magic…a Brilliant Story in the Heart of Washington DC
In closing its successful series, the Dominican Film Showcase in Washington DC chose “Los Fabulosos Má Mejores” a children’s comedy that not only makes us laugh but also transmits a valuable message of hope and perseverance for adults while encouraging reflection. As part of its premiere in Washington DC on November 4th at the Art Museum of the Americas (AMA), the film’s director Carlos Manuel Plasencia and its producer Celinés Toribio were in attendance at the
excellent event. The movie played to a full house of people of all ages who share an avid interest in seeing the best and latest Dominican productions made available in the nation’s capital.

Leonel Fernández Gives Lecture in Mexico on the Current State of the Latin American Left
On an invitation to discuss “The Left in Latin American in Times of Global Crisis,” the president of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode), former President of the Dominican Republic, Dr. Leonel Fernández, gave a lecture at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) for students, professors, and staff of the university’s Center for Latin American Studies.
