António Guterres, Secretary-General-designate of the United Nations, took the oath of office at UN headquarters on Monday December 12, for his five-year term which begins on 1 January 2017. The oath was administered by Peter Thomson, President of the 71st session of the General Assembly.

The last GFDD’s Dominican Film Showcase Embassy Edition of 2016 screened the film ‘Sugar’, a sports drama directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, that follows the story of Miguel Santos, a. k. a. Sugar, a Dominican pitcher from San Pedro de Macorís, struggling to make it to the big leagues and pull himself and his family out of poverty.
