António Guterres, Secretary-General-designate of the United Nations, took the oath of office at UN headquarters on Monday December 12, for his five-year term which begins on 1 January 2017. The oath was administered by Peter Thomson, President of the 71st session of the General Assembly.

Sweet! The Life Story of a Dominican Pitcher Screens at the DR Embassy
The last GFDD’s Dominican Film Showcase Embassy Edition of 2016 screened the film ‘Sugar’, a sports drama directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, that follows the story of Miguel Santos, a. k. a. Sugar, a Dominican pitcher from San Pedro de Macorís, struggling to make it to the big leagues and pull himself and his family out of poverty.

Value of Life Listed as Official Selection of the Mumbai Shorts International Film Festival
Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD)’s latest production, the short film Value of Life, has been listed in the Official Selection of the 5th Mumbai Shorts International Film Festival to be held December 21 at the Residency Hotel, in Mumbai, India.

DREFF and Green Screen T&T to Promote Environmental Filmmaking and Sustainability in the Caribbean
The Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) and the Environmental Film Festival of Trinidad and Tobago, Green Screen, are joining efforts to promote environmental filmmaking and sustainability in the Caribbean. Both festivals have incredible experiences and lessons learned throughout the years and now are ready to share best practices to increase their impact and scope of action in the region.
