GFDD Officially Starts the Holiday Season
With an arts and crafts bazaar held at its Washington, DC office, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) officially started the 2017 holiday season. The event was celebrated in collaboration with the Embassy of the Dominican Republic to the United States, and provided an opportunity for the Washington community and friends of the Foundation to enjoy traditional Dominican music while being able to buy local gifts for their loved ones.

‘Love the Earth’ Film Series Comes to the Cinemateca Dominicana
With collaboration from the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of the Environment, the Dominican Republic Film Commission (DGCINE) and the Year Round Environmental Screening Initiative of the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) celebrated the film series ‘Love the Earth’ from November 17 to 29 at the Cinemateca Dominicana, located in Santo Domingo’s Plaza de la Cultura.

Diccionario Cultural Dominicano Launched in Nation’s Capital
Convened by the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and the Georgetown Center for Latin American Studies in a room overlooking the sun-speckled waters of the Potomac River at the Georgetown University Library, students, professionals, and cultural enthusiasts gathered to attend the DC launch of the Diccionario Cultural Dominicano.

Alongside the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (Funglode) and Editorial Funglode, Dr. Leonel Fernández, former president of the Dominican Republic headed the ceremony which put the Diccionario Cultural Dominicano into circulation in The Magic City.

The Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) met with leaders and members from the Colegio Dominicano de Periodistas en Estados Unidos (CDP-US – Dominican Journalism Association in the United States) to discuss possibilities for future alliances between the institutions.

Two Caribbean Environmental Film Festivals Joined Efforts for Regional Sustainability
The Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF), a Global Foundation for Democracy and Developmen (GFDD) initiative, joined the environmental film festival of Trinidad and Tobago, Green Screen T&T, an annual event which brings environmental and sustainability focused films, panels, workshops and other activities to the city of Port of Spain.

In the culmination and closing ceremony of the 13th International Conference of the Americas (CILA 2017), recognition and prizes were awarded by committees and educational institutions to leading student delegations.
