    In recent days, the United States and the People’s Republic of China, surprisingly agreed to a ceasefire in their trade war. The war began with an increase of tariffs on imports of Chinese household appliances to the North American market, to which steel and aluminum were later added.

  • GFDD and DREFF Celebrate World Turtle Day with a Special Screening of “Cacú: Un cambio por la vida” at the United Nations

    As a fundamental piece of implementing best practices to protect the endangered species, the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF), celebrated World Turtle Day with a special screening of the Dominican documentary “Cacú: Un cambio por la vida” (A Change for Life), at the United Nations Headquarters, followed by a discussion with the film director, Marvin del Cid, and Dominican marine
    biologist, Omar Shamir Reynoso.

  • DREFF and UNAPEC Will Celebrate World Environment Day and World Oceans Day

    To commemorate World Environment Day, held each year on June 5th and World Oceans Day, held worldwide on June 8th, the Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF), an initiative of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and APEC University (UNAPEC), will feature films on both these subjects for professors and students from June 5-8, 2018.

  • The Big Apple Overtaken with Dominican Spirit During Showing of Documentary on Dominican History, Culture and Heritage

    The feature Dominican documentary “Hay un país en el mundo” (There is a Country in the World) was presented in New York City in the Rafael Villalona Theatre of the Dominican Commission of Culture (CODOCUL)) last Friday, May 11, as part of the cultural program organized during the 26th Dominican Week in the United States. The event was organized by the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD), Dominicanos USA, CODOCUL, the
    Banco BHD-León and the American Chamber of Commerce–DR (AMCHAM-DR).

  • Celebrating Mother’s Day in Style!

    On May 10, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and the Dominican Republic Embassy in the United States hosted an arts and crafts bazaar celebrating Mother’s day. Local artisans from the Dominican Republic visited Washington, DC to participate in several events and showings, including Passport DC, and made a stop in their busy agenda to meet and greet, and also sell their artisanal creations, to GFDD’s friends in a more intimate space.
