DREFF Joins BIJRD at FICI 2018 with Screenings of “The Boy and the World”
As part of the collaboration with the XIII Festival Internacional de Cine Infantil (FICI – Children’s International Film Festival), held annually in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, GFDD and its DR Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) screened the animated film “The Boy and the World” twice. The first screening was held on Sunday, July 29 at 4:00 p.m at Sambil, and the second one was on Monday, July 30 at 4:00 p.m. at Agora Mall. Hundreds of children and
adults enjoyed the Oscar nominee film that was part of the 2016 DREFF’s official selection.

The former President of the Dominican Republic and president of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (Funglode), Dr. Leonel Fernández, delivered the keynote address in the opening of the VI International Dominican-Hispanic Book Fair where he highlighted the quality and impressive intellectual trajectory of writer Aída Cartagena Portalatín. This year’s Fair, held in Orlando, Florida, honors the renowned Dominican writer.

Special Presentation of First Feature Film Directed by Waddys Jaquez in New York’s Lincoln Center
An enthusiastic audience packed Lincoln Center’s Walter Reade Theatre last Wednesday, July 25, 2018, to view the special presentation of the Dominican film “La Barbería,” Dominican film maker Waddys Jaquez’ first feature film. At the end of the presentation, the audience gave a prolonged standing ovation to the film. This is the third special presentation that the Dominican Film Showcase (GFDD initiative) and the Dominican Global Film Festival present at the prestigious Lincoln
Center theatre.
