  • Three Films From Dominican Global Film Festival Nominated for Oscars

    The official list of Oscar nominations for 2010 include “The Milk of Sorrow” ( “La Teta Asustada”) from Peru in the category of Best Foreign film. “The Cove” and “Food, Inc.” competed in the category of Best Documentary. Recently the Golden Globes nominated three productions also presented at the Dominican Film Festival.

  • The Global Media Arts Institute Breaks Into the World of Theater Arts

    The Global Media Arts Institute (GMAI) presented a workshop on acting with Obie Award winning writer, actor and director, Roger Guenveur Smith, January 12-14, 2010. Twenty aspiring actors interested in theater arts participated in the workshop that emphasized improvisation and coordination of voice and movement.

  • GMAI to Offer Course on Scriptwriting

    The Global Media Arts Institute (GMAI), an initiative of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), will offer a two-week course on scriptwriting in collaboration with Escuela Internacional de Cine y TV (EICTV) in Cuba.

    On Jan. 12, 2010, a massive 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck southern Haiti, reducing much of its capital Port-Au-Prince to rubble. It was the worst earthquake in the region in more than 200 years, with thousands upon thousands feared dead.
