InteRDom to Forge New Relationships—And Strengthen Old Ones—in Georgia

DREFF Represented at the Annual Environmental Media Awards (EMA), Los Angeles, CA
On a kind invitation by Stuart and Julie Sender, director and producer of Harmony: A New Way of Looking at Our World, an acclaimed environmental documentary screened at DREFF 2013 and nominated for 2013 EMA awards, the DR Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) was invited to participate in the biggest environmental, media and entertainment event of the year held annually in Burbank, Los Angeles.

GFDD Representative Elected to United Nations NGO Executive Committee of Financing for Development
In recognition of GFDD’s efforts in the areas of Financing for Development (FfD), Global Foundation for Democracy and Development has been elected to the United Nations NGO Executive Committee on FfD by unanimous vote on October 2, 2013 for a two-year term. The new role will provide an opportunity to network and dialogue at the UN with those working on FfD issues and collaborate with the global network of FFD organizations.

Eco-Huertos Program takes root in San Cristobal
On Saturday, October 19th, GFDD and FUNGLODE are proud to announce that Ecohuertos, a program that supports the creation of organic and sustainable vegetable gardens in schools and communities throughout the Dominican Republic, will travel to San Cristobal to impart an induction workshop for members of the Fundación Iglesia Centro de Fe y Vida Abundante.

DREFF Shows Trashed at Dominican Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources in Attempt to Elevate Waste Management Awareness
As part of GFDD’s Year-Round Environmental Film Screenings program, the DR Environmental Film Festival in collaboration with the Dominican Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources held back-to-back screenings of the documentary film Trashed. The program, October 16-18 at Ministry Headquarters in Santo Domingo, included opening remarks by Ginny Heinsen, Director of the 3Rs Program for the Agricultural and Forestry Development Center
(CEDAF).

GFDD and FUNGLODE Panel at UNHQ Addresses Strategies for Poverty Reduction and Eradication
On Thursday, October 17, 2013, in honor of the United Nations International Day of Eradication of Poverty, the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and its sister organization in the Dominican Republic Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) in collaboration with the Dominican Republic Mission to the UN, organized a Panel Discussion entitled: “Local Productivity, Entrepreneurship and Employment: Essential Tools for Poverty Eradication.”

Dominican Film Showcase Concludes Successful Event at Drexel University
On October 10, 2013, as part of its popular Dominican Film Showcase program organized to promote, share, and celebrate the stories, characters and history of the Dominican Republic with an international audience, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) in collaboration with Café Latino, and the assistance of the Drexel University Spanish Club, presented a Dominican film screening, Ana’s Struggle, produced by a
representative of a new generation of Dominican filmmakers, Bladimir Abud.

Festival Brings Latin Poetry to New York’s Financial District –Where Creativity Never Sleeps
Thanks to support from GFDD and FUNGLODE, the City’s financial district was revived with echoes of dulcet prose as 30 accomplished Latin Poets from the US and abroad, including the Dominican Republic, read excerpts of their work at the opening ceremony of the Latin American Poetry Festival in NYC, October 9-11.
