The IV Forum on Latin American Democracy: President of GFDD and FUNGLODE calls for Latin America to Strengthen Its Social and Democratic State of Law
The former President of the Dominican Republic, Dr. Leonel Fernández, declared on Thursday in this city that, to avoid pessimism taking root in the region, Latin America has to work with a view to defining and implementing a new development model, which should be consistent and in harmony with the consolidation of a social and democratic state of law.

The first UN International Conference on Financing for Development was held in Monterrey, Mexico, in 2002. Fifty Heads of State and over 200 Ministers participated, as well as the private sector, civil society, trade, economic and monetary organizations.

Leonel Fernández negotiates Agreement with the New York Presbyterian Hospital to Benefit Medical Students and Professionals
The former Dominican President and honorary President of Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE), Dr. Leonel Fernández, visited Columbia University’s Presbyterian Hospital, to begin laying the groundwork with its authorities for the signing of an inter-agency exchange agreement that would benefit medical students and professionals from both the Dominican Republic and the United States.

New Generation of Dominican Filmmakers to be Presented at Drexel University
As part of its popular Dominican get-togethers program organized to promote a better understanding of the richness and diversity of Dominican Culture, Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) in collaboration with Café Latino, and the assistance of the Drexel University Spanish Club and will be hosting a Dominican film screening, to be held on October 10th, 2013 at Papadakis Integrates Science Building, Drexel University.

Conservation photographer, naturalist and illustrated-book producer, Eladio Fernandez, took center stage, as GFDD/ FUNGLODE inaugurated his exhibit entitled Agriculture and People: Subsistence Practices of Hispaniola, to a crowded auditorium at the City College Center for Worker for Education on October 3, 2013.

GFDD and FUNGLODE Participates in Latino Poetry Festival with Dominican Poet Basilio Belliard
GFDD/FUNGLODE, a partner in this initiative, is participating in this popular poetry gathering by hosting renowned Dominican poet Basilio Belliard. This Festival, already a major cultural event in New York City, celebrates the literary creativity and Hispanic heritage of the United States, according to organizers who point out that nearly 40 million people speak Spanish in the United States. Local, national and international poets are invited to attend this year’s Festival.
