Ultra distance open water swimmer, Marcos Diaz, told a crowd on Thursday night at the Dominican Get Together in the Big Apple, an initiative of GFDD and FUNGLODE, that in his long distance swims, “the trip is more important than the goal.” This philosophy generally guides the Dominican swimmer’s attitude about all of his long-distance, in some cases, world record- breaking swims.

DR Environmental Film Festival Bring School Vegetable Garden Initiative to the Loyola and Calazans Schools in Santo Domingo
GFDD’s Dominican Republic Environmental Film Festival (DREFF) brought its School Vegetable Initiative to the students at the Loyola School and the Calazans School in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on April 16 and April 20 respectively. Students had the opportunity to become more familiar with organic vegetable cultivation and the ecosystem services of soils.

Elections in the Dominican Republic, scheduled for May 20, are expected to be a closely contested. Some 6.5 million citizens will vote for President and Vice President. And, for the first time in the DR’s history, voters will also elect 8 deputies who will represent the nearly 2 million Dominicans living abroad.
